A little-watched economic indicator is warning of a coming storm for the UK economy

On Wednesday morning, a little watched economic indicator, Markit’s Household Finance Index, hit its lowest level in nearly two years.
Despite record high levels of employment, Brits are now the most worried about the state of their finances since mid-2014.
“UK households reported the greatest pressure on their finances in nearly two years during May. This was signalled by the seasonally adjusted Household Finance Index (HFI) dropping to a 22- month low of 42.3, from 45.1 in April. The reading pointed to a substantial deterioration in financial wellbeing,” Markit said in a release.
