A staggering number of Americans do not know enough about the Zika virus that is creeping steadily closer to the US, a new poll has revealed.
Four in 10 Americans reported that they heard little to nothing about the mosquito-borne virus, including the birth defects and temporarily paralysis linked to Zika.
Among those who have at least somewhat followed the Zika saga, most aren’t sure if there’s a treatment or vaccine yet, or if the virus could be spread other than through mosquito bites.
The poll, conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, also found that more than half of Americans supports a variety of effort to curb summer mosquito swarms – including spraying pesticides and releasing genetically modified mosquitoes.
