It’s believed the men – a North Korean defector and Chinese national – planned to assassinate the despot in the city of Hoeryong in North Hamgyong Province.

North Korean guards arrested the men before they made it across the border.

Unconfirmed reports from the secretive state reveal the pair were arrested near the Tumen river at the Chinese border.

A number of other men are thought to have been involved in the plot but managed to escape.

The guards who made the arrest will now be rewarded, according to a source in North Korea speaking to Japanese news service the Asia Press.
