Early reports suggest a car bomb targeted a military barracks close to the Turkish parliamentary building and several other government buildings.
Ankara’s governor said at least five people have been killed and 10 injured by a car bombing.
Civilians have fled nearby metro stations as emergency services put the area under lockdown.
The explosion is believed to have taken place during rush hour as a bus carrying military personnel was passing by.
