The Libyan plane, which was carrying out a bombing campaign against ISIS Jihadis and other militants in the region, was downed by anti-aircraft guns.
The twisted terror group, also known as Daesh, later claimed their fighters downed the plane according to specialist intelligence group SITE who monitor Jihadi activity online.
The downed jet is believed to have been specifically targeting positions belonging to the (Mujahideen) Shura Council, a coalition of Islamist militias with close ties to Al-Qaeda.
Meanwhile the pilot is reported to have landed safely after ejecting from the plane’s cockpit, but his whereabouts are currently unknown.
However initial reports from ISIS linked news outlets have claimed the vile terror cell are looking for any survivors of the crash.
Libyan air force chief of staff Brig. Gen. Saqr al-Jaroushi said the army is beginning investigations to see if “terrorists have acquired new weapons capable of shooting down our planes.”
