Massive Gun “Buyback” Bill Introduced in Congress

The Hill Reports:
A bill designed to reduce the number of firearms in the hands of American citizens has been introduced into the House of Representatives.
The Safer Neighborhoods Gun Buyback Act was reintroduced this week by Rep. Donald Payne Jr. (D-N.J.). The bill would allow the federal government to purchase firearms from civilians.
“Although no one piece of legislation will eliminate all gun violence, this bill will get guns off the streets and keep them out of the hands of people who wish to cause harm,” Payne said. “If we can get one gun off the street, if we can save one life, then we have to take action.”
As part of the deal, the government would purchase guns from gun owners at 25% over market value of the firearms.

This bill joins a new bill introduced by Democrats that would ban certain types of semi-automatic firearms from manufacture and sale in the United States.
Of course, with the GOP having a majority in both houses of Congress it seems unlikely this bill, or any other gun control bill, will actually go anywhere. However, the bill could be an indicator of what Democrats are planning should they win back control of Congress in 2016.
