NATO’s largest military exercise in more than a decade was aimed at training forces to fight security threats from the south of Europe, and a perceived threat from the east, reported Die Welt on Wednesday.
The Trident Juncture, NATO’s largest military exercise in 13 years, was devised with several perceived threats in mind, reported German newspaper Die Welt on Wednesday, including one from Russia.
“It can be concluded that NATO is showing its muscles. But for whom? Who should be impressed by this gigantic show of force?'” asks author Thorsten Jungholt.
“Hans-Lothar Domrose, German general and commander of the NATO maneuver makes [the aim] no secret. The alliance feels particularly challenged by Russia to the east of Europe, and from the south, Syria and the Mediterranean Sea.”
