The death toll from Nepal’s earthquake has peaked 6,000 as rescue workers continue pulling bodies from the wreckage.
Nepal’s earthquake has claimed over 6,000 lives on the fourth day since the disaster shook the small country’s capital and nearby villages and mountains.
On Saturday morning Nepal was hit by a 7.9-magnitude earthquake. The quake occurred some 50 miles northwest of the country’s capital Kathmandu shifting some 2775 square miles about 10 feet northward over a 30-second duration and triggering deadly avalanches on Mount Everest and surrounding mountainous areas.
Russia has evacuated 128 people from the country, including citizens of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Tajikistan. The two Russian planes arrived to Nepal carrying two tons of humanitarian aid as well as around 100 rescue workers and medical staff.
“Tomorrow there will be four more planes: two for evacuation purposes and two for humanitarian aid delivery,” an embassy source told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.
