The above April 27 APHIS list adds 6 farm outbreaks confirmed on April 24.

In Wisconsin a 90,000 turkey farm in Barron County has not been added to the confirmed list (see H5N2 map).

However, the explosion of cases was in chicken farms in Iowa. Two large layer farms in Sioux County (3.7 million and 1.7 million were announced in a press release and associated press confernce, as well as two layer farms (240,000 and 98,000) in O’Brien County. In addition, there was a pullet farm (250,000) in Osceola County.

The new confimations in layer farms increase the Iowa total to 9.5 million hens, which will create serious disposal issues in addition to the impact on egg production in Iowa, the largest egg producing state in the US.
