6.8 earthquake strikes off Japan, tsunami alert issued

A tsunami advisory has been issued in Japan following a 6.8-magnitude earthquake off the coast of the southern region of Okinawa, according to Japanese broadcaster NHK.
Waves as high as one meter are expected to hit Okinawa, NHK said, also warning that smaller waves could potentially strike other islands.
The epicenter of the strong 6.8-magnitude earthquake was located between Okinawa and Taiwan, with Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau measuring it slightly lower, at 6.3.
