The death of an 18-year-old black teen who was shot dead after pointing a loaded gun at a police officer in Berkeley, Missouri last night has been met with a firestorm of irate rhetoric which only serves to bury a crucial factor as to why there are so many instances of violent confrontations between police officers and blacks – the huge problem of violence and criminality within the black community.

Antonio Martin, who had an extensive criminal background which included “multiple uses of weapons since he was 17,” was killed at a gas station last night after an incident that was captured on surveillance camera. The footage appears to show Martin raise his gun and aim it an an officer before being shot.

Within a short time, around 200 protesters arrived on the scene and began clashes with police. A small fire was set outside a Quik Trip store and at least one individual threw fireworks as several arrests were made.
Despite the surveillance footage appearing to back up the officer’s account of what happened, irate Twitter users flooded the social network to insist the incident was another example of racist white cops targeting black people.
