Hurricane Irma, the strongest ever Atlantic Ocean hurricane on record, left a terrifying path of destruction behind it as it moved across the Caribbean and towards the United States, killing at least 22 and injuring hundreds more.
According to the latest NOAA National Hurricane Center (NHC) Hurricane Irma’s eye made landfall over Key West in the Florida Keys on Sunday morning and now Miami is being pummelled by hurricane-force winds.
At least three people have died in the Florida Keys, as the south Florida archipelago is lashed by Hurricane Irma.
Damage is starting to appear in Downtown Miami, with news teams giving the latest Hurricane Irma damage update for the area.
Shocking footage of a crane, which has been torn down by the wind has emerged as the city suffered the full impact of Hurricane Irma.
The National Weather Service says the crane collapsed under the force of Irma’s winds, and is one of two-dozen across the city.
The Weather Service said one of its Miami office employees witnessed the crane snap in two in Downtown Miami.
Building sites across Hurricane Irma’s path have been locked down amid fears unsecured building materials will turn into deadly projectiles or cranes ripped down by the strong winds.
