The former Ukip leader reminded critics, including former US leader Barack Obama, the billionaire tycoon was well within his rights to back out of the deal.

He told supporters while canvassing in Clacton the backlash was “remarkable” and that it was a “democratic” decision.

The Brexit campaigner said: “It’s called democracy, it’s remarkable, so he puts in his manifesto ‘if elected I will break the Paris accord and seek a better deal for America’ – and he’s elected on that ticket.

“Then do you know what he does? Unlike almost every other western world leader, including Theresa May, he sticks to what he promised he would do.

“It’s called democracy and the idea that Mr Junker or President Obama can say ‘no you haven’t got the power to do that’ – well what should we do? Just suspend all elections? He’s fully within his rights to do it.”

The European Commission President declared he was “not afraid” of the US leader, who was attempting to “untie” America from the world.

Speaking just hours before President Trump pulled the US out of the crucial Paris climate agreement, Mr Juncker said China would fill the vacuum.

And he issued a direct warning to the former Apprentice boss, stating: “A Luxembourger is not afraid of an American.”
