Phil Campion told Sky News the matter was now “black and white” as he said the UK would suffer more terror attacks if measures to deter people were not implemented.

Mr Campion said: “For me, it is a lot more black and white, there aren’t as many issues for me. We’ve now got people whose intent was to do harm and have actually carried out, and they’ve killed our children.

“You say that one line to yourself, ‘you’ve killed our children’, it then becomes a bit more black and white. I think people are missing the point here, people are trying to go down too many avenues.

“We have people in this country who are actively targeting and killing our children, that’s it, no more no less. I don’t have any time for anybody who is saying to me ‘we should be giving them a bit more time, we should do this’, no.

“We now have to act, we have to do something and we have to do something quickly.”

The former SAS serviceman said anyone who had shown intent to commit a terrorist act in the UK needed to be either jailed, if they were UK nationals, or returned to their home countries.

Mr Campion said: “I think all of these people who have shown intent, no matter how big or how small, whether it be a photograph or waving a black flag, turning up to a demonstration and holding a placard.

“I think if you’ve got stuff on your phone if you are arrested… this ideological rubbish, you need to be dealt with straight way.

“And when I say dealt with that means you go back to wherever you came from or alternatively you’re locked up.”
