BREAKING: Earthquake rocks Colombia sparking deadly Ring of Fire fears

COLOMBIA has been hit by a 5.6 magnitude earthquake forcing the airport in Bogota to close and forcing the evacuation of buildings.

The earthquake struck at 8am Colombian time today.

Columbia sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire – a huge 40,000 kilometre stretch where several fault lines connect and is often associated with heightened seismic activity.

President Juan Manuel Santos said there were no immediate reports of damage.

It was the biggest earthquake to hit Colombia since a 5.9-magnitude tremor last September.

The president tweeted saying: “No reports of damages after the earthquake in Colombia. We will watch out for further reports.
