US Republican nominee Donald Trump’s campaign is reportedly using a phone app similar to the one that Brexit backers used to mine voter data and share messages with users’ contacts encouraging them to vote.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — App developer uCampaign told Business Insider that the app matches users’ cell phone address lists to existing voter files through a third-party data and then sends campaign messages directly to the users’ contacts.
The company developed a similar app for the “Leave” campaign to encourage voter turnout in the UK referendum to leave the European Union. The Brexit campaign was ultimately successful, winning the support of 51.9 percent of UK voters.
The app could help the Republican Party reach potential voters in nontraditional and more personal ways, uCampaign CEO Thomas Peters explained.
