An earthquake measuring 5.5 occurred on Sunday on the border between Argentina and Bolivia, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reports. According to the report, the epicenter of the quake was located some 44 kilometers west of the Argentinian city of Tartagal, in the province of Salta, and some 66 kilometers south-west of the Bolivian city of Yacuiba in the Department of Tarija. The shocks lay at the depth of 9.2 kilometers. There is currently no information on casualties or damage done by the quake. Earthquakes are common in the area east of the Andes mountain range due to the geology of the region, which experiences changes to this day resulting from the movement of tectonic plates and the process of mountain formation.
