The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed a report that eight Syrian nationals were stopped trying to enter the U.S. at the Mexico border this week, amid mounting fears that ISIS terrorists may be posing as refugees to sneak into the country and launch an attack on American soil.

Right-wing news website Breitbart first reported the incident, citing two anonymous federal agents working for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The report claimed that eight Syrian ‘illegal aliens’ were apprehended Monday at the Juarez Lincoln Bridge – a border checkpoint in Laredo, Texas – and that the incident caused ‘a stir among the sector’s Border Patrol agents’.

However, the Department of Homeland Security has since issued a statement clarifying what happened earlier this week, saying that the two men, two women and four children were not trying to ‘sneak in’ to the country.
