Dutch health officials say a U.N. peacekeeper who contracted Ebola in Liberia is expected to arrive in the Netherlands for treatment on Saturday.

Health Ministry spokeswoman Inge Freriksen said the unidentified man, a Nigerian national, is scheduled to be admitted to the University Medical Center in Utrecht by the end of the afternoon. She said details of his arrival, condition and outlook are confidential.

The hospital contains one of four suites in the Netherlands equipped to deal with lethal infectious diseases, and the patient will be treated by specialized doctors and nurses.

The Netherlands follows Germany, France and Switzerland in taking on Ebola patients at request of the World Health Organization.

Ebola has sickened around 17,000 people in the past year, killing around 6,100, most of them in West Africa.
