MIAMI (WSVN) — A South Florida doctor and professor at Florida International University who recently returned from West Africa is offering insight on the fight against the deadly Ebola outbreak.
Dr. Aileen Marty is an infectious disease professor. She spent a month in Nigeria after the World Health Organization recruited her to help fight the outbreak with experts from around the world. She led a team of doctors, nurses, care workers and border patrol agents to put into place a system for screening passengers coming into and leaving Nigeria.
However, Marty’s current concern is coming from the lack of proper screening of passengers to and from West Africa worldwide.
Marty claimed she was not screened in Europe or in the United States after she left West Africa. “In my case, I was in transit to the U.S., and having come directly from Europe to Miami, I wasn’t screened in Europe, and I wasn’t screened in Miami. I happen to know I am safe, but the U.S. should have inquired about my situation.”
