Just recently the Israeli National News Arutz Sheva reported that Yemen’s national power grid has been successfully attacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists. The mainstream media is silent, possibly due to the fear that the U.S. might be next on Al-Qaeda’s agenda.

Yemen is a nation of 24 million, and has been an important asset for the War on Terror during that time. Yemen was a key player in the death of Anwar al-Awlaki, the Islamic militant and a senior talent recruiter and motivator who was involved in planning terrorist operations for Al-Qaeda.

The terrorist group AQAP (Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula), based in Yemen, is notorious for the aggressive terror operations against the United States. AQAP used grenade launchers and mortars to destroy Yemen’s transmission towers, plunging the whole country into a blackout.

But why should the U.S. be concerned about what happened in Yemen?

For starters, the U.S. power grid is just as easy to take down as the Yemen power grid, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has even said that even the smallest home-grown terror attack could take down the entire U.S. power grid for at least 18 months, possibly longer:

FERC chairman John Wellinghoff: “Destroy nine interconnection substations and a transformer manufacturer and the entire United States grid would be down for at least 18 months, probably longer.” -Wall Street Journal
