VANCOUVER, Wash. – Health officials in Clark County have seen their first flu death this year.

Clark County Public Health officials said a Vancouver man in his 80s died on Monday from the H1N1 strain of influenza. The man also had other underlying medical conditions.

Washington state has had 11 flu deaths since the beginning of December. Officials say 54 people died in the state last flu season, including three from Clark County.

Eleven people in the Portland metro area have also died of the flu this season.

Health officials recommend everyone older than 6 months get a flu shot to protect themselves from the deadly illness.
