The Palm Beach Post reports, “The federal report acknowledges that of the 205 million gallons of oil estimated to have leaked into the Gulf, more than 150 million gallons remain in the form of microscopic oil droplets, tar balls, oily sheens and airborne vapors.”

Pamela Hallock Muller, a professor of biogeological oceanography at the University of South Florida, told the Post, “There are too many unknowns at this moment to say that it’s not a problem anymore because 75 percent of it can’t be found. There is a lot of oil in beach sediments and in wetlands, and even if all the other oil evaporated but what’s already there, there’s going to be one heck of a mess for a very long time in the areas that have been fouled.”
