The Sakurajima volcano in south Japan produces some of the most spectacular eruptions on the planet — and does so on a daily/weekly basis.

This eruption shows a large volume of lava, ash, and static discharge lightning mixed in with the cloud as it rises from the smoldering caldera.

As of late.. the Japanese agency which monitors this volcano has not been uploading all the eruptions (most likely due to either connection issues or other internal broadcasting delays).

Enjoy this one.. its the first I’ve seen on their page since late April (2012).
