Video: Sheets of oil wash up in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. — While beaches were oil free in Gulf Shores on Thursday morning, sheets of oil began washing ashore between the Alabama Gulf State Park Fishing Pier and the city’s public beach by afternoon.

Share Cleanup crews arrived at the scene and began work to remove the oil that was washing up as much as eight feet up the beach, according to witnesses. Boom was also in place off the beach.

Some of the beach visitors began leaving the area when the oil started washing up and cleaning crews arrived.
