If you have ever wondered about the government’s ability to control the civilian airwaves, you will have your answer on November 9th.

On that day, federal authorities are going to shut off all television and radio communications simultaneously at 2:00PM EST to complete the first ever test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS).

This isn’t a wild conspiracy theory. The upcoming test is posted on the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau website.

Only the President has the authority to activate EAS at the national level, and he has delegated that authority to the Director of FEMA. The test will be conducted jointly by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through FEMA, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS).

In essence, the authority to seize control of all television and civilian communication has been asserted by the executive branch and handed to a government agency.

The EAS has been around since 1994. Its precursor, the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS), started back in 1963. Television and radio broadcasters, satellite radio and satellite television providers, cable television and wireline video providers are all involved in the system.

Would you prefer that there be no way to inform people of a national emergency? What is your alternative proposition to save lives in those situations?

Broadcasting an emergency alert is far from seizing control of all civilian communication. That is the kind of over the top rhetoric that verges on a conspiracy theory. Spreading fear about something as reasonable as a national emergency system is dishonest, as if the truth isn’t enough to be afraid about. Stick to truth, abandon the fearmongering.

Testing the national emergency alert system is not a wild conspiracy theory.

Your political spin, however, is an airtight theory worthy of the highest praise from Mr. Giorgio Tsoukalos himself.

All “comments” are censored on net! Chinese News just about only on not well watched! Are there dangerous ideas, dangerous thoughts, dangerous informers out their? Will they be heard? Outside the popular and preferred “Commie or Capitalist” Paradigm lives a whole “other” range of ideas, forbidden by the U.S. biased “Censors” of all we write!
Whole Off Grid, communal societies exist, surface to help disseminate ‘different” ideas, and sneak away without trace, no forwarding addresses, here on the net as we speak! American grads have been mesmerized by the same pap, never will become enlightened, believing the “Great American Corporate and Capitalist Propaganda Whore’s” and their “Sales pitch bull Shiite”! A “Test” of this nature possibly necessary for convincing Civil defense, is also an opportunity to measure many facets of the propaganda machine, long over-due for a re-build anyway! Yes! We are so controlled! Slaves to the U.S. Dollar! no zero running cost homes allowed! no zero upkeep homes allowed! no sustainable homes with gardens allowed! no sustainable lifestyles allowed! Feed the man your very life!He calls the tune! you pay the piper! Everybody now! McMansions you can never afford! SUV’s with planned obsolescence! Savings! Credit cards! Go! now! never-mind the admonitions of the ancients: Proverbs 22:7 All wrong! listen to us! We know better!

Could this be part of the reason why All T.V. stations went digital a while back?

Could someone, preferably the author, clarify the objection to the EAS? Do you disagree that the government should have such a system, the fact that it uses private communication channels, or that the President has sole control?
IMHO, I think an EAS is a valuable tool and could potentially save lives. Using tv and radio to deliver that message seems logical and efficient. Finally, if the public can’t trust the Executive to properly administer an EAS, then we need to reconsider the FISA courts and SOP regarding our nuclear arsenal.
