CHILLING new evidence suggests the Manchester Arena terrorist may have had an accomplice lurking nearby to trigger the explosion – just in case he caved last minute.

Experts have examined the detonator switch found near the body of sick Salman Abedi and it’s believed the bomb may have had a remote switch.

According to intelligence in the US, another extremist may have been monitoring the 22-year-old in the case he bailed on the attack.

It was found that the bomb used to kill 22 people at the Ariana Grande concert on Monday night had special circuitry which suggests the nail-packed explosive could be detonated remotely.

Cops performing raids across the North West this week are believed to discovered Abedi’s bomb factory at a home in Manchester – though it is of a belief he was part of a bigger terror cell.

And there are now fears that whoever made the Manchester Arena bomb is still on the run and could carry out more attacks.

Eight men remain in police custody, and Mark Rowley, the UK’s top terror officer, said more arrests are “likely”.

A police source said: “They don’t waste bomb makers. The reason we have gone to critical is because he is still out there and the fear is that he will strike again before they get caught.”

Those that studied the switch said the circuit board could either have been used as a time or intended as a failsafe following an accomplice to trigger the bomb if Abedi didn’t.

Daily Star Online previously revealed ISIS had issued a bomb maker’s guide in the weeks leading up to the attacks.
