Police have cordoned off a major road in Wigan with reports suggesting a man was wrestled to the ground by armed cops next to a red package.

Shop workers were urged to stay inside as police detained the man on Upper Dicconson Street in Swinley, who was reportedly walking towards a bus with a suspicious bag.

It has now been announced by cops that a man was arrested in Wigan this afternoon in connection with Monday night’s bombing at Manchester Arena that killed many children.

This is the fifth suspect to be arrested in relation to the attack which saw a nail bomb detonate after US singer Ariana Grande’s concert that night and leave 64 injured and 20 of them critical.

A manager of a business in the area in Wigan where plain clothed officers were seen making an arrest told Wigan Today: “To be honest it is quite frightening.

“I have my young grandson here.

“At first we thought it was a training exercise but then the police came in and said that a man had been detained over a suspicious bag.
