The British Prime Minister accused European Union countries of “lining up to oppose” the UK in upcoming Brexit talks, to punish citizens for the leave vote on June 23.

She claimed the German Chancellor’s tough talk on exit negotiations means the UK must have the “strongest possible hand”.

And she urged voters to choose the Tories at the snap general election on June 8, to ensure this can be delivered.

Mrs May said: “We’ve seen from Chancellor Angela Merkel today, we’ve heard her comments today.

“We’ve seen that actually there will be times when these negotiations are going to get tough.”

The PM’s comments come following a speech in the German parliament, in which Ms Merkel said Britons were mistaken in believing trade talks could take place alongside Brexit negotiations.
