Metropolitan police officers will visit a specialist Royal Marines base in Wandsworth, made up of a four-storey shipping container, as emergency services train for dealing with emergencies in multi-storey buildings.

The £200,000 Centre for Urban Tactics and Climbing (CUTAC) was built for commando drill exercises – but will now be used by officers who may one day have to deal with a Paris-style terror attack.

While elite troops have staged the UK’s biggest-ever chemical weapons exercise in response to intel that suggests terrorists will try to smuggle early substances into the UK.

More than 100 marines wearing state-of-the-art equipment joined RAF and MOD experts on the two-week training mission, codenamed Operation Toxic Dagger.

And the extensive drills culminated in an attack on a stimulated storage unit for sarin – the nerve gas allegedly used by Syria earlier this month.

Police and security chiefs warned London must be prepared if terrorists carry out a string of simultaneous attacks, similar to those which killed 130 people in Paris in December 2015.
