The Libertarian Party of Florida recently sent a letter to all 67 county sheriffs in the Sunshine State urging them to stop ignoring the abuses taking place by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) against innocent travelers, and to begin actually enforcing the law and making arrests.
The letter addresses the TSA’s blatant disregard for state and federal laws with its routine operations, and correctly identifies the agency’s enhanced screening methods as clear constitutional violations.
The letter begins with a petition to Florida’s sheriffs to remember that all men and women are granted certain rights that are meant to be protected by the government, not violated or restricted in any way. One of these is protection against unreasonable search and seizure, which is the pretense of the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution.
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures, and against the unreasonable interception of private communications by any means, shall not be violated,” states the amendment. It goes on to basically say that without a warrant or probably cause, no free individual can be arbitrarily searched or restrained.
