Since the people’s decision to leave the bloc in last year’s referendum, the Government has been approaching how best to trigger Article 50.

But with final assurances offered to the House of Lords, Theresa May looks likely to start the process in the coming days.

German Chancellor and European leader Angela Merkel has signalled to member nations that meetings could begin on April 6 if Brexit is triggered in the coming week.

And Irish prime minister Enda Kenny added an early April meeting would be likely if “the Prime Minister moves Article 50, I think, by the March 15”, adding that Mrs May had not yet revealed to him the trigger date.

Speculation intensified late Friday as it emerged all three of her Brexit Cabinet ministers will appear on political TV shows on Sunday.

Number 10 has only confirmed that Mrs May is expected to start the Brexit negotiations “by the end of the month”, but insiders believe she will not waste any time once the terms of triggering article 50 were approved by parliament.

The Prime Minister will attempt to beat away amendments to the Article 50 bill added by the unelected House of Lords.

Meanwhile as many as 20 Tory MPs are expected to rebel against their party leader and vote in favour of the amendments.
