Dam engineers worked late in a bid to fortify the damaged overflow channel at Oroville Dam before the first storm hit last night.

Two more storm systems are forecast to follow in coming days in Butte County where America’s tallest dam is located at Oroville Lake.

The NWS in Sacramento, just south of Butte County, does not expect the first of the two storm systems to cause big inflows into the lake.

But the third larger storm system, due to arrive on Tuesday, could lead to more rain and melted snow pouring into Lake Oroville.

“The third wave is looking like our problem child,” said Michelle Mead, a meteorologist at NWS in Sacramento.
