Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., suggested today at a congressional forum that even ‘rational people’ are talking about their states seceding from the union due to the Electoral College victory of President-elect Donald Trump.

Lofgren was attending the event ‘The Electoral College and the Future of American Democracy,’ which was being hosted by the House Judiciary Committee Democrats.

The California Democrat noted how ‘for the second time in sixteen years, people the American voters elected did not become president,’ pointing toward popular vote winners, and fellow Democrats, Hillary Clinton and Al Gore.

‘Rational people, not the fringe, are now talking about whether states should be separated from the U.S., whether we should have a Constitutional Convention,’ she said, noting two high-stakes plans.

‘And I think as time goes on that is apt to become more the case unless we here can figure an answer to preventing the majority from being ruled by the minority,’ she noted.
