Dame Louise Casey, who has gathered evidence for a review into opportunity and integration, has uncovered how some Muslims are cut off from the rest of Britain.
The report, due to be published this week, finds thousands of Muslims living in Bradford, Dewsbury and Blackburn rarely leave their areas and have no clue of what life in Britain is like.
Some communities are so isolated with their own schools, TV channels and housing estates, that they believe the rest of Britain is Islamic, despite Muslims making up just 4.8 per cent of the population.
A source who has read the report told The Sunday Times: “Certain Muslims, because they are in these communities and go to Muslim schools, think Britain is a Muslim country. They think 75 per cent of the country is Muslim.”
According to the most recent census in 2011, Christianity is the largest religion in England and Wales making up 59.3 per cent of the population, followed by Islam with 2.7 million Muslims.
One Whitehall source said the report will “send shockwaves through the system. It’s going to be quite hard reading for some people.”
