Cannabis is now legal in a majority of states in the US, but the federal agencies are still doing what they can to limit the freedoms of cannabis users.

Even though the US Department of Health and Human Services holds a patent on the the use of cannabinoids for medical treatment, Patent No. 6630507: “Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants”, cannabis is still classified as a Schedule 1 controlled substance which, according to the FDA and DEA, means that it has no approved medical use and has a high potential for abuse. Regardless of the fact that cannabis is now legal in 8 states and the District of Columbia, there is still a federal prohibition on gun ownership to those who use the substance legally. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have alerted gun dealers that it is their responsibility to halt a transaction if they have any reason to believe that the customer is a cannabis user.

The feds want all cannabis users disarmed.

The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) says that nobody should have to give up their Second Amendment rights to use cannabis. After all, why should an epileptic person who uses cannabis to stop seizures faster than any other medication, with no side-effects, have to relinquish his ability to defend himself in his own home? Is his life less important because he chooses to use a certain medicine that is not an “approved” medical treatment?
