SCIENTISTS have discovered a new fault line in California which runs parallel to the San Andreas fault, which experts are warning could trigger mass casualties and devastation.

Californians have long lived in fear that the twitchy San Andreas fault could soon burst into life, triggering a catastrophic earthquake in the region.
Now, after a spate of small quakes in the Salton Sea area, seismologists reviewing the area have discovered a new fault line which could exacerbate the bigger fault line in the region.
What is now known as the Salton Through Fault has been hidden from experts as it lies beneath the Salton Sea – a 56 kilometre salty rift lake in California where there has recently been up to 200 tremors, prompting fears that the ‘big one’ is on its way.
While experts had previously said that the smaller tremors were unrelated, they are now having to review that reasoning as the two faults are seemingly linked.
