US Cities, States Heighten Precautions Against Terrorism…(Get Ready To Get Groped!…)
Major cities stepped up their security Tuesday to protect against reprisal for the assassination of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
More bomb-sniffing canine units patrolled transit stations in Washington, D.C., and New York City while police pledged to make wider use of “invisible” surveillance, such as hidden cameras.
Security also is being increased at ports, stadiums and airports.
“Because we operate in undoubtedly the most important city in the world, the Metropolitan Police Department maintains a heightened state of alert,” Washington, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a statement.
She called on private citizens to help be the eyes and ears of police.
“The single most important thing to stress is that the public is our first line of defense and it is critical that they remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior to the police by dialing 911,” Lanier said.
