BREAKING: Two injured after gunman goes on shooting rampage near Paris

A SHOOTING at a Paris supermarket has seen at least two people injured sparking an armed siege involving French SWAT teams.

French police officials said the suspect started shooting near a supermarket to the west of the capital.

Two people were said to be critically injured in the shooting which happened at around 11.45am local time (10.45am BST) Monday.

Reports said the gunman was in his 60s or 70s and had fired shots in front of a supermarket in Port-Marly, a suburb to the west of Paris.

Elite police are currently stationed outside a building where the suspect is holed up, officials said.

According to local TV the man was known to police for violent behaviour, had a criminal record and was a regular customer of the supermarket.

He is understood to have pulled up outside the shop in his car, taking aim at a female cashier aged 57-years-old before targeting a 73-year-old man.
