The Metropolitan Police chief said it is a matter of “when, not if” a terror attack will happen on British soil.
Sir Bernard also revealed that despite a huge boost to armed forces in the UK, it will not be enough to completely stop an attack.
He said as long the terror threat level remained at “severe” then “an attack is highly likely – you could say it is a case of when, not if”.
The Met police commissioner of five years said a number of terrorist plots have been foiled by “world-beating” security forces and as a result of co-ordinated work by the police and intelligence services.
