TERROR attacks being carried out by lone wolves are on the rise but continue to be increasingly difficult to prevent, Europol has warned.

The EU law enforcement agency analysed four deadly attacks across the globe, launched over a four week period from the middle of June.
A report into the attacks now claims the incidents “highlight the operational difficulties in detecting and disrupting lone actor attacks”.
Researchers looked into the Orlando nightclub killings, the murder of two police officials in Magnanville, the Nice lorry massacre last Thursday and the axe and knife attack on a train in Wuerzburg in Germany on Monday.
They concluded that although Islamic State claimed responsibility for the brutal assassinations, none of them “seem to have been planned, logistically supported, or executed directly by ISIS.”
While the perpetrators of the attacks in Orlando, Magnanville and Wuerzburg pledged allegiance to the terror network, their actual involvement in the group cannot be established.
The report also highlighted differences in the wording used in messages claiming responsibility between the recent strikes, with those posted relating to the Paris and Brussels attacks in November and March.
However, Europol has also claimed there is “currently no evidence to suggest that the Nice attacker considered himself a member of ISIS”.
Eighty-four people were killed when Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel drove a lorry through crowds who had gathered to celebrate Bastille Day in Nice last week.
