Despite the fact the European Commission has stated they have “no Plan B”, the Irish government has openly admitted it will be ready in the event of their closest neighbour leaving the 28-country bloc.

The Irish government posted a memo on it’s website stating: “Ireland will have a clear plan in place to deal with the implications of a UK vote to Leave.

“A framework has been developed on a whole government basis to identify contingencies that may arise in the days, weeks and months that follow.”

The 11-section Q&A page details everything from how Brexit will effect the Republic’s border with Northern Ireland, whether the country may follow suit and hold their own election and how Irish voters in Britain can have their say.

The country has been heavily involved in Brexit debate, despite not having an official role in the referendum.

Citizens from the Republic of Ireland living in Britain are allowed to vote in June’s referendum – the only EU country other than Commonwealth nations Malta and Cyprus granted this privilege – and experts have warned their impact could win the fight for the Remain campaign.
