Earthquake strikes off coast of Sydney DAYS after tsunami evacuation map TERRIFIES locals

N EARTHQUAKE has struck off the New South Wales coast just days after residents were left fearing an imminent tsunami.

It came following a map being released showing huge areas of the city that would need evacuating in the event a huge wave struck.

The quake, of 4.1 magnitude, was detected off the central coast of the state following weekend weather chaos.

The undersea tremor registered offshore from the Gosford area about 10am today local time.

Residents, who already feared a tsunami may be on the cards after the release of the evacuation map, have been told there is NO risk of one from the latest medium-sized quake by officials.

But the tremor has done nothing to quell fears among a state already left on red alert.

Social media users who felt the tremor recorded their fears in tweets and postings.

Rob Fowler wrote on Twitter: “Felt that slight tremor Sydney Surry Hills at 10:00.
