Twitter went into a frenzy on Saturday after ISIS’ propaganda news agency, Al-Furqan, announced it would be releasing a statement.

Speculation was rife among social media users that the announcement would be in relation to the EgyptAir tragedy which saw flight MS804 crash as it made its way from Paris to Cairo.

And as ISIS “fanboys” waited with baited breath for the broadcast, they scrawled messages on scraps of paper claiming to be in a host of cities popular with UK travellers looking for city breaks.

There were Twitter posts written by ISIS supporters claiming to be in Paris and Belgium, both targeted by the terror group, while another scrap of paper looked as if was being held up in a sweet shop in Stockholm.

Elsewhere, notes were written by fanatics in Cologne, Germany, a city which found itself in the spotlight following a wave of sex attacks on New Year’s Eve by a mob of migrants.

Other scraps of paper were purportedly written in Norway, the Netherlands, the USA, Turkey and even Israel.
