Some criminal immigrants could be free in the United States for years before being ordered out of the country

Close to 20,000 convicted criminal immigrants were released from jail by Homeland Security last year, it has been revealed.

Among the more than 19,700 convicts freed was Jean Jacques, an immigrant living in the U.S. illegally, who killed a Connecticut woman just six months after he was allowed out.

The U.S. tried repeatedly to deport Jacques, but his native Haiti wouldn’t take him back after he served more than a decade in a state prison for attempted murder and committed multiple parole violations.
