Residents in Colorado were bewildered when they awoke to heavy snow fall this morning, a far cry from the balmy 70 degree temperatures they enjoyed earlier this week.

A mid-April storm could bring as much as three feet of snow in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, causing transport delays as 800 flights have already been cancelled at the Denver International Airport.

Dubbed Winter Storm Vexo, the wet and slushy conditions have covered emerging flowers and blossoming trees with an expected six to 12 inches of snow in Colorado’s capital.

Mountainous regions like Coal Creek Canyon, just 30 miles west of city, could see a whopping three feet of snow.

Forecasters warned residents in the region to be prepared for power outages, property damage, and road closures as the storm may last well into Monday.
