Pentagon chiefs have admitted using military drones to spy over the mainland United States but have refused to say exactly how many times the craft were deployed.

According to a report prepared by the office of the Department of Defense Inspector General, ‘fewer than 20’ requests were made to use the craft for missions inside America between 2006 and 2015.

However, the report does not make it clear how many of the requests were granted, or say when, where or how the devices were used, or what information was gathered.
