The Free Exercise Clause protects citizens’ right to practice their religion as they please, so long as the practice does not run afoul of a “public morals” or a “compelling” governmental interest. In other words, Muslims, Christians et al are free to practice their religion, as they see fit, so long as the free exercise of their religion ends where my constitutionally nose begins.

House Resolution 569 Condemning violence, bigotry, and hateful rhetoric towards Muslims in the United States.

An amazing piece of legislation just passed the House of Representatives. It elevates the Islamic religion and Muslims to a protected status not enjoyed by any other religion. Below are some key excerpts of this resolution:

>Whereas the rise of hateful and anti-Muslim speech, violence, and cultural ignorance plays into the false narrative spread by terrorist groups of Western hatred of Islam, and can encourage certain individuals to react in extreme and violent ways
Whereas the victims of anti-Muslim hate crimes and rhetoric have faced physical, verbal, and emotional abuse because they were Muslim or believed to be Muslim
Denounces in the strongest terms the increase of hate speech, intimidation, violence, vandalism, arson, and other hate crimes targeted against mosques, Muslims, or those perceived to be Muslim

The key word in the above passage is hate speech. What exactly is hate speech?

Urges local and Federal law enforcement authorities to work to prevent hate crimes; and to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law those perpetrators of hate crimes

The above passage reminds one of the movie Minority Report in which the law enforcement community moved to arrest people for crimes that they MIGHT commit. The movie gave birth to the phrase “pre-crime” and that is exactly what is being advocated for here.

This passage of this resolution is extremely disturbing. For example, if an American expresses resentment toward the taking, or attempted taking of innocent American lives in the Muslim terrorist events at San Bernardino, Chattanooga, Paris and Garland terrorist attacks, then one is guilty of a hate crime. Isn’t this also reminiscent of the Attorney General Loretta Lynch(mob) threats to prosecute anyone who dates to insult Muslims or the Islamic religion?
