Hi Steve,
I work in a credit card/transaction processing company that supports most
transactions for banks, VISA, and MasterCard.

Last Friday, a mandate was given from upper management (former CEO of
JPMorgan, Gen Petraeus is head of the parent company KKR), to stop all work
immediately. This includes all maintenance and trouble prevention work.

Usually, this would come with some explanation after some employee had done
a major mistake, but this isn’t the case.

Usually there are talks and rumors of such things, but this is not the case
now. The whole situation is unusual as work freezes for the holiday period
typically come later.

Remember, banks are REQUIRED to have a disaster recovery procedure in place
in case of a major outage.
