France will be in a state of emergency for the next three months and is now ‘at war’ with ISIS, Francois Hollande said today.

The French President told MPs in Paris he ‘will destroy’ the terror group by intensifying bombing raids on targets in Syria and is sending an aircraft carrier packed with jets this week.

In a speech at Versailles this afternoon Mr Hollande announced he wants a new UN Security Council resolution to fight ISIS, which could in theory lead to a coalition ground invasion.

He said: ‘France is at war. No barbarians will prevent us from living how we have decided to live. To live fully. Terrorism will never destroy the republic, because the republic will destroy terrorism’.

To make France safer from future attacks he said he would change the law to revoke terrorists of their French citizenship and ban them from entering the country.

For the next three months he will keep 1,500 additional troops guarding official buildings and religious sites and enforce stricter controls at the country’s borders.

Mr Hollande said that Friday’s attacks in which 129 people were killed were planned in Syria but launched from Belgium with help from French terrorists.

French jets have already launched a series of ‘massive’ air strikes on ISIS in Syria as the country started its ‘pitiless’ retribution for the terror attacks on Paris.

The blitz was conducted by ten fighter planes which dropped 20 bombs on the terror group’s capital of Raqqa, destroying a key command centre, training camp and munitions dump, throwing the city into panic.

In France, police carried out around 150 co-ordinated anti-terrorism raids across the country this morning, arresting dozens of suspects and seizing a cache of weapons including a rocket launcher.
